I’d like to welcome the many new subscribers who have found your way here. I’m so pleased that something I wrote resonated with you, and I’m very glad to have you along this road.
Newer readers may not know much about my motivation for writing, so in case that is you: I spent 30 years as a devout evangelical—attending church more than weekly, working diligently in several ministries, and going to other countries to share the gospel. I was also groomed, manipulated, and abused by a spiritual leader for many years.
Over the course of several years, I began reexamining my beliefs and worldview, and eventually had to admit that I was no longer convinced by the things I had believed for my whole life.
Now I write about what I am learning as I excavate the soil of my former faith and examine how the teachings so many of us grew up with can lead to harm and abuse. More than anything, I am working through my own healing so that I can be a resource for those who are coming out of a similar place. I want victims to know they are not alone and that there is so much life, love, and beauty after escaping the people and powers that seek to control you.
I get more personal and vulnerable from time to time. Because of ongoing legal circumstances, I protect myself (and other victims of my abuser) by guarding these pieces behind a paywall.
